I have successfully installed Dragon Naturally Speaking 5 with a fresh wine install. The install completed just fine, although I haven't tested the program yet because I'm not actually at that computer. I did the install remotely. I thought I would detail it for you all in case somebody wants to try it. I know this is off-topic as it doesn't involve xvoice, but it seems that people here want the information. DNS 5 was a pain to figure out, but once I did it, I was able to reduce the process to just a few simple steps. The trick for me was to use *both* sidenet and winetools. This is all on Debian testing. Your distro might differ, but I doubt it will differ by much. wine 0.9 apt-get install wine wine-utils cabextract wine 0.9 was a big upgrade. Use it or newer. sidenet 1.9.0 Download from http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html Unzip and untar Run the setup script, choose option 2 for ie6 and wmp6 At some point, it will report an error 194. Just hit ok. When finished, it will open IE. Close IE and setup will exit. winetools wt207jo-wt212jo Download the tar.gz from http://www.von-thadden.de/Joachim/WineTools/ Edit the install script to replace /usr/local/bin with /usr/bin. Run the install script as root. Run wt2 as normal user. Winetools will complain that the user isn't configured. Ignore it. Winetools will offer to overwrite your config file. Say No. Select Base setup Select DCOM98 and follow default prompts until installed. Select Main Menu and Exit Install Dragon NAturally Speaking 5 wine /cdrom/setup.exe I took all the defaults, including 'typical installation'. The whole thing went smoothly when I followed this procedure. Sidenet is supposed to handle DCOM98 installation, but the instructions on the site referred to a DCOM98 file that didn't wasn't in the Sidenet package. Moreover, when I got DCOM98 installed, there were indications that Sidenet gave me one that was too new or too old or something. If anybody can get the correct DCOM98 through Sidenet, the winetools steps might be eliminated. Next time I am at that computer, I will try to install DNS 8.
